Pompey Puddleducks 'Drive-it' Day, April 27th 2014
When I looked at the route plan it seemed a pretty full schedule with numerous stop-offs and photo opportunities, but I needn't have worried - Bob B and his team had got it down to a 'T' (or maybe even a 'B'!)
Starting at the Yew Tree Inn on Hayling Island we stoked up on bacon and sausage baps, then a dash for the cars in the first of several rain showers throughout the day.
First stop after that was for wild garlic picking at the side of the road - never realised what they were until then, but an amazing display of the pretty white blooms and the pungent garlicky smell was noticeable.
The Richmond Arms next to look at a lovely H van converted into a wood-burning Pizza wagon. The guy from the pub came out to enthuse over our cars and opened up his 'H' so we could have a look inside.
Then off to the Clock Museum, housed in a lovely old chapel. Paul, the Curator, gave an enthusiastic talk about what the museum does, particularly with regards to getting youngsters away from their x-boxes etc. and into working with their hands on mechanical things.
On to another photo-call - bluebells this time. There can be few things as beautiful as a bluebell wood in full bloom. There is something eerie about the way the colour seems to hover like a mist just above the ground. Nature at its best - takes your breath away.
A short hop to Goodwood Motor racing circuit for more photos. We had the place to ourselves so made good use of the opportunity to picture the cars against the iconic backdrop of the stands and tunnel entrance.
Next was Tangmere Military Aircraft Museum for a 'flying' visit before running along Bognor seafront (with a fair bit of tooting and waving) to Littlehampton where we went our various ways in search of sustenance.
