This national, was a bit different for ourselves, we had acquired a small caravan, and with this full of all things to sell and essentials, we decided to pull it with my Citroen Saxo vtr. Meeting the rest of the Wessex Ducks at Rownhams services . From here we headed north, via A34, M40, and across country , via Milton Keynes to Cambridge and the town of St Ives. Arriving at the site in good time.
Booked, set up and we walked the dogs around our home for the bank holiday weekend. What a Brilliant place. Everything was sorted. Loos, showers, bar, trade, food and drink and even an ice cream man .
The weather was a scorcher, each day I would take my car round to the flea market to sell those bits and bob’s. Sitting in the sun, meeting our 2cv friends and really having a great time. My wife had been busy in lockdown turning sacks of wool into scarves, hats and some Easter bonnets. She sold several items and raised £30 for the British Heart Foundation.
Each evening, after tea we would pop round to the bar and see the acts. Then return to our caravan for our supper and an early night. Even though the days were boiling hot, the nights were a bit chilly. Our group all visited the surrounding villages and towns for shops and cafes.
There was a big display of cars on Sunday. I took a bundle of photos from here and around the site. With camera in hand, it gave me the opportunity to meet with other 2cv clubs from around the country and from further a field. Making a new friends with the Lancashire Hotpots, Air Cooled Alley Cats and our hosts the Cambridge Legless Frogs. And bumping into others like the Sou'west Escargot, Ragtop Rollers, Pompey Puddleducks and a group who called themselves Accadianne Corner.
We had planned to stay till Tuesday, but something came up, and we left on Monday just before lunch for a pleasurable journey home. This national meeting was very enjoyable. I’ve only had my 2cv since 2011 and been to several national meetings. Oxford, Worcester, Anglesea, Chichester, Ripon, Skegness. And we also attended the centenary at Coventry. We had an excellent time and cant wait to do it all again. Thanks Alan & Angel.
